Join us in celebrating National Community Development Week!
The purpose of National Community Development Week is to educate Congressional members and the community on the importance of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, its impact on the community, and the need for increased program funding. National Community Development Week is designed to focus local as well as national attention on the CDBG program.
Block grants funds can be used for the development of public infrastructure (water/wastewater), senior centers and community centers, downtown revitalization, EMS stations, fire trucks, and to support local governments' efforts in response to a natural disaster or an imminent threat to health and safety.
To learn more about National Community Development Week and how you can support the initiative, click on the Tool Kit link below:
For decades, Frontier Community Resources has been working with the CDBG program by providing hands-on technical assistance to cities and counties in grant funding applications and project administration.
Cities and Counties can sub-grant CDBG funds to special districts or non-profit agencies such as a fire district or non-profit community center.
Check out the CDBG flyer in the Community Development section below to get more information on the program.
April is Fair Housing Month
April is the month when we celebrate National Fair Housing Month. In this month we feel grateful for the Fair Housing Act that was passed on April 11, 1968. This law was designed to protect Americans from facing discrimination in selling or buying houses. It is also a basic human concept, and entitlement for people. As a community, we have the right to be free of any form of discrimination. In our communities, people belonging to diverse backgrounds should be warmly welcomed as our neighbors.
In the past, people used to show discrimination towards others in terms of housing. Some of the most damaging discrimination examples are found in the past, including minority neighborhoods that were located far from quality schools, public transportation, and jobs.
The Fair Housing Act was signed by President Johnson and it was passed after the death of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was in Memphis on April 4, 1968, to support the sanitation worker's strike when he was shot and killed. As a result of the tragedy, Congress collectively passed the 1968 Fair Housing Act.
